An early morning mist creates a magical atmosphere in the rainforest of Dorrigo National Park. It had rained here overnight, and as the sun came up the evaporation drew with it a soft veil that hung between the giant tree trunks. Such diffusion of light is ideal for forest photography. It gives the shot an evenness of contrast that would be impossible in clear weather. I love the sense of birth and renewal here: the lush growth of vines and ferns, and the lichen coating the bark. The large tree featured is a metre or more in width, a testament to the strength of life that continually erupts from the forests ancient floor. To me, this was beauty at its most primeval and profound.
